Adventuring Planning (Thurs Sessions)

Let's start planning a vague outline for what we want to do for our sessions so they can go quicker and smoother.

So, what are we doing? We're currently "out adventuring" and I believe we cleared one hex and were starting into a second? Or did we clear one hex and are going to head back because of the weather? Anyone have any other thoughts?

Let's try to avoid discussions about buying/selling/upgrading gear during session time because it takes forever to get a consensus from everyone and we end up wasting at least an hour every session on trivial stuff that could be done here or over email. It wouldn't be as big a deal in person because there could be multiple conversations going on without things grinding to a halt, but when there's only one channel for everyone to talk in, it's difficult.

ONWARD!!!! (Journey Quest reference, hehe)

I feel that we should decide, more generally, where we want to concentrate the early phases of kingdom development and also what we eventually want our kingdom to be known for or have so that we can work towards it (e.g. University, Military Academy, Magical Academy, Hospital, Bardic Collegeā€¦ i.e. big-ticket items).

So far we have focused on claiming territory and building roadways and farms, as well as some living quarters and the castle. Mostly, we in the "Ours!" and "Settlement" phase. I feel that this phase may go on for quite some time. The question is how much attention we divide to further developing areas that we have already settled, as well as how that will affect our consumption. Also, the shape of our currently settled and claimed land is seriously pervy and difficult to defend. So, of the general categories of Claiming, Settling (farms, houses), Defense, and Society Improvements (more interesting buildings and society diversification), what is the priority right now or mix of priorities?

I agree in trying to keep the gear and kingdom-building discussions separate, but I doubt that using this board will completely substitute for in-person discussions as not everyone does well with forum formats (myself, for example).

My point was that we should use our Thursday sessions for "adventuring" and do "everything else" some other time, or at least agree ahead of time that we're using Thursday for non-adventuring stuff. I don't care what format we use to communicate for the "everything else" part.

It's really irksome to show up ready to play our characters and go explore, further quests, kill things etc, and spend significant amounts of our time doing "everything else."

That said, let's get back to topic of what we're doing tomorrow night. If you would like to discuss kingdom building stuff, that's a different thread :-) Right now we're currently out in the wilderness, have just completed exploring a hex, and need to figure out what we're doing next.

I am all for getting to actual "play" on Thursday live sessions. However, I don't have any inclinations of what ought to be done at this point and so will bow out of this discussion.

We have to consider timing for our administrative duties every month with our adventuring...we cannot just go out on a 3 month stretch anymore...we have to give 7 days a month to our Kingdom ruling duties...I am not sure of the rules around that...if we are not there the kingdom goes into anarchy?

Something to take into account

How much time have we been out in the field?

I believe that we have been in the field for about 4-5 days at this point. Squibb would have to confirm that.

We need another Category for "Adventuring Logistics" so that we can separate our "Roleplaying", "Adventuring", and "Kingdom building" threads more clearly.

You have technically been in the field 3 days, however we are going to rewind one day due to poor book layout on certain items, and GM misreading.

Per the rules the Administrative Days need not be consecutive and can occur at any time during the month, so in theory, since we have already done our administrative duties for April, we could adventure/craft/etc until the last 7 days in May. Either way we will need to be in the Kingdom for 7 days sometime in May...

So what are we doing during tonight's session? Adventuring, hopefully?

There's a bit of a rewind we need to do, then it's back to the adventure/exploration trek you're currently on... maybe. ;-)

Kirk had mentioned that he wanted to return because Cademon didn't like the cold. Will you confirm please Kirk? :)

That is accurate but since it has started to warm up Cademon is ok so far.

Ok, so where are we at?

At the end of the last session we returned to the Captial. Are we taking another Kingdom turn now?

Then what afterwards? We are currently scheduled not to have another session online or otherwise until December.

Technicially after this next kingdom turn we could adventure for about 45ish days or so. But since we are not having any sessions for some time and we can take kingdom turns here, do we want to stay in the capital for a few months?

Technically I think that we could do our kingdom turns and get them out of the way even if we wanted to go back out adventuring again. The only catch to that would be it would be dependent on what happened in the kingdom during that month.

I think that it would be good to try to track down the trolls, especially since we have a quest for them. That tells me that they are likely more than a rumor.

Well, I would like to know if Belgannan will be able to do some spell research before we head off to find the trolls or not and how many days I would be able to get (This is assuming he will have time after we do our seven days of administrative duties)

IG, Ano'ha would recommend that they stay the month here, do necessary things for this month and next month, to reassure the populace after the werewolf scare and curfew. They could gather information during that month as well to better guide their quest efforts. It would also give a chance for the weather to warm up slightly and would possibly reassure the populace that their leadership is present and invested in the kingdom's well-being.

OOG, i.e. Do this month's duties. Take downtime during the intervening time to the next month (someone gather information to help with quests). Do next month's duties and take care of any kingdom troubles cropping up. Set out to adventure/quest. That would mean two kingdom-building turns.

That sounds like a good idea to me. I'm sure that Ano'ha could talk Cademon into staying around for a bit to help settle the populace.

That sounds like a good plan. Belgannan is excited to be able to perform some more research.

It also helps that the things that we would likely be building these turns include city walls / moats, etc. as specified in the Kingdom-building threads.
